Ministry of Electronics and IT has been mandated to promote digital transactions in the country. FY 2018-19, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. Of India (GoI) has targeted to achieve 2500 Cr digital payment transaction set. For further strengthen the digital payment ecosystem, MeitY has waived off merchant discount rate (MDR) applicable on Debit Card/BHIM UPI/ Adhaar Pay transaction less than or equal to Rs 2000/- in value for a period of two years with effect from January '2018. This will help to promote small value transactions up-to Rs 2000/-.
