The National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN) scheme, as approved by Government of India, envisions to bring broadband connectivity to each Gram Panchayat in the country, providing rural citizens the opportunity to reap the benefits of accessing ICT enabled services, ensuring economic and social growth. NOFN scheme has been renamed to ‘BharatNet’ under ‘Digital India’ programme.
In Tripura, NOFN Pilot completed at Panisagar which had connected 15 locations under Panisagar Block. Execution of BharatNet (earlier NOFN) project in Tripura is going in advance stage. At present, there are 1178 GP/VCs and 58 Blocks in Tripura. Out of 1178 GPs/VCs, total 381 GPs/VCs have been connected till date. 106 GPs/VCs are planned to be commissioned through Satellite Link.
